Many of you are probably already aware of this, but for those of you that aren't there is a
feature length film coming out in a few weeks about the 2010 Western States race. This is a piece that ultrarunner and film maker
JB Benna has been working on in one form or another for quite some time now. Many of the ideas, and some of the work on the film go back even a year or two before the 2010 race. JB traveled extensively throughout North America to compile footage for this film. I'm excited just to see all the amazing footage of beautiful and wild places in which pieces of this story are told, ranging from the California Sierras to the Colorado Rockies and all the way up to Southeast Alaska, as well as a handful of other locations in between. I think if the story is well told it has potential to be a great film.
For those in the greater Denver area there is going to be a
screening in Colorado Springs that Tony Krupicka, Anita Ortiz, and myself will all be attending. The evening will include a Q&A with the three of us after the film. I highly recommend getting tickets for this one early as it certainly could sell out.

Hey Geoff, really psyched about the movie. Can't wait to see it. I get chills just thinking about that rally you pulled off.
Sorry to change topics, but I wanted to know a little about the running snowshoes you wear. I think they are Atlas Race snowshoes- the gold ones? Are these much different than the Run model besides weight difference from the titanium parts? Is there a durability difference between the 2? I am planning to run the 100's of miles of groomed snowmobile trails in my area with them this winter- so big flotation and durability are not that important.
Thanks,
Jeremy in Idaho
jeremy,
interesting timing to your question because i've been asking myself the exact same question recently. i have not worn the "run" model. from what i've heard from Atlas the cleats on the run model (aluminum) are certainly more durable than the titanium cleats on the race model, but beyond that there shouldn't be much difference in durability between the two models. if you're going to be be on groomed trail that is fully snow covered probably either one will hold up just fine. if you're doing much of anything with mixed surface (ice, frozen ground, rocks, etc) then you probably would want the durability of the aluminum cleats on the "run" model.
