Alaska Mountain Ultrarunning Camp

I've got all the details ironed out for a running camp that I'll be directing in Juneau this summer. Check out all the details here: http://www.akultracamp.blogspot.com/

Right now I am planning one session (June 6-12), but if there is enough demand I'll be doing another session later in the summer. Please do let me know if the June dates don't work for you, but you'd be interested in a session in late July or August. Each session will be limited to 10 runners so sign up soon if you want to guarantee a space.

Wow, that seems like a smoking deal and a great camp. I'm not at the level necessary to attend yet, but this is something I can work toward being ready for in a year or two.

That does sound amazing. I do not think I would be fast enough to keep up, and I have no experience running at a high altitude. I am doing my first 50 miler in March, so like the above poster maybe one day I will get to that level and be able to attend.

Juneau is at sea level so there would not be a problem with altitude. All Alaskan runners are low altitude guys.

sound fabulous. Any more details on the routes. I live in Copenhagen, hope to be running the CCC and could really use some kind of mountain crash course to prep for the 5600m I will take on in August.

Copenhagen Runner, the exact routes we run will depend a lot on the weather. if it's clear we will doing a lot of stuff where we will hike up to about 3,500ft. at the start of the run and then traverse mountain ridges for several miles and then drop back down to where we started. if the weather is bad (low clouds) we will be forced to stay lower but we'll still be getting a lot of vertical in, just without getting much above 2,000ft.

Geoff,

How advanced do you need to be to attend your camp? Is there a certain pace that you run at? Thx

jason,
you don't need to be advanced at all, just experienced. i want participants to show up in shape and feel confident that they can run for a long time. the pace isn't a concern. we will be doing mountain runs with a lot of vertical. this means a large portion of our "running" will actually be hiking to get up into the mountains. we won't be doing any runs during the week in which we are pushing ourselves at a fast pace (unless anyone wants to run faster out ahead of the group and that would be fine too), just getting out for a few hours each day and enjoying some of the most mountain running terrain in the world. basically i want it to be like a group of friends going out for a long run, where each runner feels comfortable to run whatever pace they feel capable of. and as stated on the website there will always be the option for participants to take a day off or to do a shorter run.

Sounds killer, great prep for Hardrock but about 1.5 weeks too early in June. Maybe next time.
