Poor Mr. Roes, super star talent in his legs and zero charisma and motivational power in his words. What a boring interview with an athlete whose personality clearly clashes with his talents. May be this is what happens when you run retarded races and brain cells die as a result. Mr. Roes I hope your ready for the annihilation that will take place in calif when Kilian beats you by at least an hour. you had better watch our because not only kilian will beat you maybe your countrys own dave mackey will too. kilian will prevail as US ultrarunning continues its downward spiral at the hands of the words greats.
was nice to hear the interview Geoff... 5:30s at the end of HOW many miles? that's insanity.
Senor Cloud woke up on the wrong side of the bed today, didn't he!! i don't think it matters much what you do at WS... what you've already accomplished has been nothing short of amazing, and the only challenger to that greatness is YOU and YOU alone... (i find it hard to imagine anyone would run THAT much unless they truly did it for the love of it... and in that, course records, prize money, prestige, etc... it just happens... or it doesn't, but none of that changes anything).
This interview makes me want to be there even that much more. The atmosphere at the race from the starting line, everywhere on the course, and at the finish is as good as it gets. The way the race panned out in 2010 made it even more exciting to be at. My father and I crewed for Geoff last year and at the river crossing when he was something like 1/2 hour behind I told my father that it's far from over... I dont think I really believed myself, but I had to say that at the time. Witnessing Geoff come down the last street in Auburn into the stadium in first was as good as it gets. In fact it still brings tears to my eye's that's how exciting it was for me!!!
Funny story: The in-laws came along to Pocatello to crew for me. As a surprise pre-run dinner, they made this strange polenta and blue cheese lasagna. Apparently this recipe came from some outdoor magazine and it was supposedly the favorite carbo fuel for some well known 100 mile champion. It turns out to be pretty good. I liked it so much that I ate it cold for 3 days after the race. Thanks for sharing.
looks like your training is going well. would love to see another gutsy finish like last year. make sure you take some time to listen to the Dead and enjoy the journey. Rock it at WS!
On another note....Any chance I will get a chance to read the piece your girlfriend was writing about 'running as pilgrimage?' I think that Cloud's frustrations, shown here, actually result from not getting much candy on Halloween. Or, maybe that results from being a depraved jerk. Oh well, it's a vicious cycle.
