No Cali

As I'm sure most folks have heard by now the Lake Sonoma 50 that I was supposed race tomorrow has been cancelled due to flooding on the course. It would have been nice to race this weekend, but it's also going to be really nice to spend a weekend at home with Corle and Elle. Not to mention that tomorrow is supposed to be the warmest day here on the Colorado front range since sometime in October.

In a couple weeks I'll use the time, money, and energy that was going to go toward Lake Sonoma to go down to Arizona and race the Zane Grey 50. I'm super excited for this race. It's one I've had my eye on for a few years now and with a few other runners defecting from Sonoma to ZG it should be a really fun day of racing. It's probably a bit close to the SBER 100 to be ideal, but it certainly won't be the first time I've done "too many" races in a short period of time. I guess time will tell if 13 days is enough time between on of the toughest 50 milers in the country and one of the toughest 100 milers in the country.

Zane Grey, good call. Pretty nasty course. Check out Scott Jaime's and my reports on it from last year. I am guessing the course has not gotten any better. ajw

Nice! The Phoenician Ultra Running Community is very excided about you and Dakota coming down to Arizona and running Zane Grey. No doubt Zane is a tough deal: rocks, “cat claw” brush, heat, etc. but the beauty and the historic elements are overwhelming. I’m going to bug you about coming out for a group trail run in the Phoenix Metro area (Phoenix Mountains Preserve) the Wednesday morning before the race. AJW knows the area and Scott Jaime joined us last year. Got some Karma and won Zane. I promised Dakota a win too if he came out, maybe I need to amend that now:) Talk Soon, Kevin Higgins

Good luck Geoff! Nice alternative. I'm most certain Dave Mackey and AK could give you just as much insight on the course. Another 50M I hope to be able to run one of these days. Can't wait to hear about it from your perspective. 50 and 100! Ask the speedgoat how it's done. He is a master of it :)

AHH shucks! Thought you might want to do AR50. Lots of fast dudes running this year and its the very next weekend in CA. The course is a little mundane but it would have made the race a bit more exciting. Oh well, good luck at Zane Grey dude.

Kevin, does that mean I had bad karma? I was 40 minutes ahead of Scott when that big tree threw me down and broke my arm. :-) Just sayin'. The winning time was slow last year, you can expect it to be at least an hour faster, in the low 8's or better.

G, two weeks, no problem. :-)

a couple things to keep in mind: 1. the trail disappears all the time. 2. the bushes/overgrowth push back. 3. the bushes/overgrowth will cut you. 4. Photo cops/speed traps in Payson....

Have fun. Rough and gnarly - right up your alley!

yes karl - that means you had bad Karma. The WMRC removed the tree for me by the time I came through, just sayin...

The trail is in amazing shape this year. Overgrowth is "gone", trees are cleared (poor Karl), and rocks, well, rocks are abundant. Just follow the yellow ribbon carefully for 50 miles.

Yes, try to join us at WMRC. Many of us have run ZG numberous times, this will be #10 for me. So if you need any advice on how to run one of the toughest 50's, let me know. ;) You will love the course. Very remote at times and very beautiful!
So excited all you speedsters are joining in on the fun!
